Eric and his wife, Evelyn, arrived at Wick on the 7th June 1958 after being stationed at Cockburnspath for three years.  Eric's rank in HM Coastguards was 'Station Officer' and basically supervised the L.S.A. (Life Saving Apparatus).   The Coastguard Houses, of which there were six, were built as semi-detached properties and faced the sea, over-looking the rocks and the famous "Trinkies." (See second photo below.)

Wick Coastguard Houses - 1958/59

Four of the six coastguard houses shown here - No: 1 is next to the 'lookout tower' (on the right with the flag pole in front).

Eric and Eve's house was number one,  next to the lookout tower, pictured above, and are solidly built to withstand the terrific wind, rain and other elements 'mother nature' cares to send at them.

Famous "Trinkies" and shop

Notice the swimming pool in the background - which is the actual  "Trinkies."

There is a sweet shop in the foreground and left ( the sides have stripes along it)
.

(Click on the picture to enlarge.)

Wick was a 'close knit' fishing community (and still is) where everyone knew everyone else, looking after and helping each other - which is somewhat a rarity these days!
