While out on a routine training exercise, Eric suffered from the effects
commonly known as 'The Bends' while under water. Luckily for Eric,
he realised what the symptoms were and immediately informed the
Captain. The Captain radioed to shore the problem and returned to
base above water where Eric went ashore.
The Captain the immediately turned around and headed out again to sea to
continue training.
Eric was then pensioned to shore on 14th May 1949 (where he joined Her Majesty's Coastguards).
