The Chronicle Cup Competition.

As reported in The Coastguard - Volume 8 No.1  Spring 1955

Station Officer Eric Campbell

The Chronicle Cup.

Although the news is, perhaps, rather stale by now, the result of the "Chronicle Cup" Competition is given. In all, 17 Brigades and Companies took part, and a very high standard was shown, with only 8 1/2 points separating the first 8 teams.

1. Newbiggin L.S.A. Company (Life Saving Apparatus)
2. South Shields Volunteer Life Brigade
3. Tynemouth Volunteer Life Brigade

Newbiggin are heartily congratulated on winning for the first time in their history, and for taking the cup further from Tyneside than ever before. They had obviously trained assiduously to archive this success, and much credit must be given to Coastguardsman Hyde for working them up to such a high standard. The cup was presented by Mr. Weeks, former General Manager of the Ashington Group of Collieries, at a special Dinner held on November 13, 1954.
